While Ford historians are unsure as to where exactly the name originated from, most agree that the Montclair gets its namesake from the upper-class community of Montclair, New Jersey, and while itâ?? s not a certainty, it certainly looks the part. s decked with a brilliant two-tone color scheme of white on blue, wide white wall tires, and doesnâ?? t look anywhere near its age of sixty! Not all cars are created equal, and 1956 saw the addition of a new feature for Ford, the Lifeguard Program. Spurred by Robert McNamara, the program was a result Fordâ?? s own crash testing and redesigned aspects of interior components to make vehicles safer in the event of a crash. Standard features included: safety â?? deep-centerâ? steering wheel, safety â?? double-gripâ? door latches, and safety rearview mirror. While the public was initially responsive to the Lifeguard Program, even leading Henry Ford II to say, â?? McNamara is selling safety, but Chevrolet is selling cars,â? 1956 saw the beginning of a shift in the American Automotive Industry. This Montclair is a piece of that very history. It's more than just a pretty face, it features a 302 V8 and 5-speed automatic transmission, as well as a lot of modern amenities to really set this cruiser apart. The vehicle name was introduced in 1955 and applied to mercury's premium automobile line. Ford historians are at a loss as to where the name originated; the consensus is that it's taken from the upper-class community of montclair, new jersey. S featured mercury's best appointments, extra chrome trim, and different two-tone paint combinations to set them apart from other mercury products. This survivor car has 51603 original miles on her and she still looks great! Powered by a 390 cid v8 that is paired to a 3-speed automatic transmission. The car was repainted 3 years ago, in resale red and shows very well. The green interior is also in great condition with vinyl seats, door panels, headliner, & green dash. The car features its original mercury hub cabs wrapped in hanook tires. Other features include ac (working), am radio, & power steering.
