I have owned this vehicle for the last 5or so years and i believe its time to let her go. I am very limited on timeand the datsun just does not get the attention it deserves. The vehicle justspends 95 percent of its days sitting at home looking pretty and is lucky to bedriven to work once a month. She is very solid with no rust she starts right upevery time time! She runs excellent and all gears go in properly without grinds. Car has a one of a kind front fiberglass bumper that replaced the big metalfront one. Rear bumper has also been shaved and makes it look very slick, paintis obviously not original. Engine is the fuel injected l28e connected to the 5speed manual transmission. Interior is in good shape in exception of thedashboard which has several cracks on it. All glass is in excellent shape withno cracks and both windows roll up/down car is slightly lowered on eibach sportsprings which gives it an aggressive look. Car has no leaks nor does it smoke. Suspension is also very responsive and feels very solid. Vehicle is a real headturner and gets complimented every time i drive it.

It is a late 1972 (oct) productionmaking it an actual 1973. Very nice original 1973 datsun 240z ready forrestoration or daily driver with a little tuning. I acquired this z about 5years ago from the central california valley. It had been sitting for 6+ years. After sitting in my garage for the past 5 years i finally started tinkering withit. New gas, changed the oil, adjusted valves, new starter, ignition switch,clutch master and slave cylinder. Started right up drove it around the block,transmission seemed fine as are brakes but it will need some carburetor work andfine tuning to be road worthy, and new tires etc. They hold air but are 10+years old. Compression check ranged from 150 to 160 on all cylinders it is anumbers matching engine. It has had a white repaint at some time and it is anoriginal white car. Upholstery is clean but not original. All body panels andglass appear to be original and firewall vin matches strut tower and dash vinand as far as i can tell it has never been in an accident and no bondo present. Things that need attention are; carbs, they appear to be the original smogequipped flat top hitachis which i heard are pretty hard to tune properly so ihaven't attempted yet. Headlights don't work (not sure why, fuses areok) rust in rear quarter panels in front of rear wheels and rear hatch panel ( iwill include new patch panels as in pictures) also a little surface rust and alittle rust in floorboards and a pillars as shown in pics. Missing one hubcap and no spare. Needs wiper arms but wipermotor works fine as does heater and gauges. Clock does not work and some dashan.

What we know: this car has been in the midwest since new; it was sold new at russ darrow in wisconsin, then remained with the original owner in wisconsin until 1994, when it was then sold to a gentleman in illinois. Earlier this year we purchased the car from him. He stored the car under a cover in his 2-car garage, and drove it sparingly throughout the 1990s, before parking the car indefinitely in the early 2000s. Since taking possession of the car, we have gone through it in its entirety to get the car back to its former glory; this car is now mechanically well-sorted, and in outstanding cosmetic condition. Buff, polish, and wax exterior. We love datsun zs around here, and have had a few of them. We find this car so interesting because the last z we had was an early 240z, a bare-bones, minimalist car. This one is the polar opposite; this car was optioned with just about everything. The sunroof was dealer-installed, and this car has rear and side louvers, air conditioning, cruise control, mudflaps, body-colored door trim, wheel well trim, passenger mirror…. It sure seems as though every available option was opted for when this car was ordered new. The exterior: wine red metallic paint is original everywhere except for the hood and very top of the front fenders, as confirmed with an elcometer. Paint gauge readings show 3. 5-3. 8 all around, with the aforementioned areas reading 6. 2-7. 0, which would indicate a respray. Wine red metallic is a gorgeous color in person, and suits the car perfectly. Metallic sparkle is nice and subtle. There are very few blemishes or signs of age; blemishes include a handful of small chips that have been touched up and are barely visible. One of these chips is on the passenger’s side of the hood, and there are a couple more tiny chips along the rearward driver’s door crease. There is also a visible shadow on the rear deck lid, left by the russ darrow dealer sticker that the car was originally sold with. All chrome is in excellent shape; the big impact-bumpers present as-new, with no scrapes, discoloring, oxidation, or anything of the sort. Weatherstripping is in fantastic shape, as is all window and wheel-well trim. Hubcaps are as-new, and tires are brand new coopers. There are no dents or dings on this car and absolutely no rust bubbles or corrosion on the body panels, this car is bone-dry and the body is in excellent shape. The interior: while we love how this car looks from the outside, the interior is the real highlight of the car. It’s a true time-capsule. Black seats are leather with cloth inserts, and are in extremely close to new condition. On both driver and passenger sides there are no scrapes, scratches, creases, or signs of wear at all. Even the driver’s outer bolster is free of scuffing. Original wheel is in great shape, dashboard is perfect. No discoloring, cracking, or damage. All gauges are functional, as are all powered systems. This includes r12 air conditioning, fan, heat, front and rear defrost, power antennae, original hitachi radio, cruise control, wipers, all dash lights, fog lights, analog clock, lights and signals. Shift knob shows no wear. All glass and lights are clear and crack-free. Sills show no damage and shine bright. Odometer reads 29,585 and is accurate and functional. Overall, the interior is in extremely impressive shape throughout. Under the hood / under the car: the underbody is in great shape. With the exception of some very light surface rust, primarily on the exhaust, the underbody shows no rust or damage. Floors and frame rails are rock solid. There is no corrosion whatsoever, not even on the inside of the lower corners of the rocker panels. This car is phenomenally well preserved and retains all of its original metal. The car is very clean under the hood as well, with no dry, cracked hoses or anything of the sort. On the road, the car feels excellent. It truly feels like a new 280z. It starts right up first turn, idles cool and steady, stops great, tracks dead straight under both acceleration and braking, and is actually pretty quick. While the handling is part of what makes these cars so enjoyable to drive, it is not at the expense of ride quality. This car is very forgiving, and can handle chicago’s pothole-ridden streets without any fuss at all. Sound deadening is quite good, this car is nice and quiet at speed. Pedal feel and clutch grab are exactly as they should be, and make this car very easy to drive well. Shifts are smooth and quick. There are absolutely no tendencies or noises of concern; this is a very well-sorted, 29k mile car. There is a small bubble on the left rear hatch pillar but overall it’s a solid good-looking body and paint job. While the engine was out the doors, fender, hatch, and hood were removed to refinish the exterior. The atlanta showroom is offering this 1978 datsun 280z. Sales of the nissan z car started in october 1969 (for the 1970 model year), with separate versions for the japanese and us markets. The japanese fairlady z featured a 2. 0l sohc l20a inline-6 producing 130 hp, while the us 240z featured a 2. 4l l24 inline-6 with twin hitachi su-type carburetors that produced 151. In japan, the z was still known as the fairlady to keep the car in line with the previous generation datsun sports roadster. However, yutaka katayama ensured the american version had all nissan, fairlady z, and 432 badging replaced with datsun and prevented all dealer shipments until they were replaced. The 240z was released in america on october 22, 1969. Combining good looks, and powerful performance, it sold over 45,000 units through the 71 model year and over 50,000 and 40,000 in 1972 and 1973, respectively. The 280z was released in 1975 in north america, not to be confused with the 280zx, which is a second-generation z-car, and featured another engine displacement enlargement to 2. 8 l. A major change was the introduction of bosch fuel injection, replacing the previous su carburetors. This resulted in a power increase to 170 hp offsetting increased weight from added luxury features and an enlarged bumper that met us federal regulations. Export markets outside north america continued to receive the datsun 260z until the introduction of the datsun 280zx at the end of 1978. This 2+2 is a good example of this sports car that has been touted as one of the best sports cars ever built. A new clutch was put in about two years ago to put the power out to the rear of this 5-speed transmission. This gold exterior and white interior sets this "z" car apart from the crowd. We bought this savagely-quick 240z from a local gentleman who had owned it for a number of years before deciding to sell due to lack of use. He had another 240z as well; this one was his when-i-want-to-scare-myself car, while the other was an extremely clean and original example. He had grown out of the whole racecar-for-the-street approach and decided to shift his focus towards the latter. He contacted us asking if we would potentially be interested in taking the car off his hands; when we went to his house and took the car for a blast through the neighborhood we were instantly smitten. Since taking possession of the car a couple months ago, we’ve put about 200 miles on it, a combination of highway mileage and residential/city driving. The car is much more at home on open roads (or a track) that allow it to be wound out. Steering is heavy at low speeds, and the suspension is extremely stiff, making speedbumps a bit of an event. While the car is an absolute blast to drive in every respect, it could use some minor sorting to make it a truly excellent example. It’s nothing of major concern, and can easily be worked around by running with the choke half out, but it’s worth noting. When the power really comes on, at right about 3500rpm, the car pulls extremely hard. The power output is very impressive, we’d estimate somewhere around 270-280hp. The engine itself has proven to be in healthy running order over these last couple months; in the 200 or so miles we’ve driven the car, it has never gotten hot or had any trouble whatsoever. The backstory of the car, as it has been described to us, is that the car was modified from new (in 1972) by prototype engineering in wheeling, il and built to scca spec. At the time, prototype engineering was run by ron neal, renown alfa and datsun guru turned nascar master tech. There the car received an extensive amount of mechanical modifications, including an early e31 head with large valves, ported and polished, with race valve springs and a heavy street cam. Cylinders were fly cut to clear the large valves, and mikuni phh carbs with custom linkage were fitted. The car also received velocity stacks, custom bundle of snakes exhaust headers, and an “ultra-close” 5-speed, which we have come to believe is a datsun roadster competition unit.
