The civilian willys pickup truck is perhaps not as well-known as the ubiquitous jeep cj universal utility vehicle, but it is nonetheless a very important machine that helped set the stage for the pickup becoming one of america's most popular vehicles. Willys overland wisely capitalized on the "war hero" status of the jeep, expanding the line into pickups and utility wagons proved a very wise move. Introduced to the market in 1947, the jeep truck shared the same basic architecture as the station wagon. This 1948 willys-overland jeep truck is far and away one of the best we've ever encountered. It has been treated to a full nut and bolt restoration with careful attention paid to detail and accuracy. The attractive two-tone light blue paintwork is a factory correct color scheme, the darker blue main body and bed highlighted by light blue panels on the doors and roof. Body color steel wheels are unadorned with hubcaps or trim rings, with subtle red pin stripes being the only nod to decoration. The wheels are wrapped in chunky, period correct off-road tires that give the jeep a fabulous, purposeful look. A single spare wheel is mounted to the bed side as original, allowing for an unobstructed cargo area. It is equipped with an original power take-off on the rear bumper, complete with the original safety guard. Paint finish is outstanding, and the body fit is appropriately consistent with a utilitarian machine such as this. The bed appears to have never been used since the restoration and is straight and free of dents, dings or scuffs and features a fabulous "wo" logo tailgate. Chrome plating is limited to just the front bumper, headlight rims and some exterior hardware, but it is extremely nice, having been restored to the same high standard as the rest of the truck. The cab is trimmed with maroon vinyl upholstery piped in white on the split bench seat as original, with tan cowlboard door cards and a red tweed headlining. Like the rest of this wonderful truck, the work impeccably executed. Being a workhorse means there's little in the way of creature comforts, but it does have an original heater and a quintet of fully restored gauges to keep the driver in tune with happenings under the hood. The dash features a two-tone scheme that mimics the exterior, and the paint finishes, chrome plating and switchgear are all in excellent condition. The transmission is shifted via a column-mounted lever, while the three floor mounted levers control the transfer case in/out, high/low ranges, the in/out for the factory equipped pto. The jack remains in factory location behind the seat, and a basic rubber mat lines the floor. The undercarriage and engine bay are equally well-presented, in basic black finishes on the chassis, axle and suspension components. It is exceptionally clean and tidy underneath, with paint work in the wheel wells as nice as that on the body. We can't help but be big fans of this delightful willys overland jeep truck.

Coming out of the 2nd World War, the Jeep had solidified itself as an all purpose vehicle that could withstand not just war, but the everyday abuse that the average American could subject it to. By now the Civilian Jeep (CJ) series had been available for a few years. Bearing the iconic 7 slot grill, as Jeep was known for being the first and only (at the time) to traverse all seven continents, the CJ-3B replaced the CJ-3A in 1953, the same year that Willys was sold to Kaiser. This turn key example is a bastard-child of different Jeep era’s, but it’s loud, it’s cool, and it demands attention. Let’s start with an exterior walk around. It leaves nothing to the imagination as it’s stripped down, raw demeanor tends to give it even more character. It would make an absolute perfect candidate for an off-road build. The hood has some ripples and waves in it, and is missing the 2 hood latches. The windshield frame is in good condition, as is the glass. The good news is that this truck is 100% rust free, aside from the chrome rings around the headlights. Any rust that was present was cut out and patched in with new sheet metal, as noticed in the rear cargo area (see pics below). Again, leaving little to the imagination, the interior of these old Jeeps was never known for its accoutrements. Basic, raw, useable steel mixed with black leather seats and a dash of gauges, shifters, and knobs. The previous owner added a bit of style to the interior of this old girl though, including a custom steering wheel and a new set of Smittybilt black leather seats. He added a set of SunPro gauges, including a temp gauge and oil psi. We do note that it is missing the speedomoter, volt meter, and tachometer, but does have the wiring there to install them fairly quickly and easily. Besides those minor details, this old CJ’s interior is complete! We opened the hood to take a peak at the old “Hurricane” 4 cylinder motor, and were quite surprised to find a 224 “Nailhead” V6 sitting in it’s place. The previous owner swapped out the old with the new to make more power for some more fun. He went all the way to add the 3 speed manual transmission that came with the motor, modifying motor and transmission mounts along the way. The motor and transmission came out of a 74 Jeepster, and it runs and shifts phenomenally. To complete the new drivetrain, he went ahead and added wider track axles off of a 1979 CJ-7, complete with Warn locking hubs up front. The final look was completed by adding a mild lift and 33” Mud King XT’s. Tachometer✔ Leather Seats

This one has had a number of upgrades to improve the overall driving experience from that of a stock wagon. Included in these upgrades is a stout 350 cid chevrolet v8 engine that was rebuilt by jasper engine & transmission about 8-10,000 miles ago. This engine has an extremely long life ahead of it. It is mated to a smooth shifting 400 automatic transmission which has also been rebuilt at the same time as the engine. The paint has been redone in a maroon/white combo and the interior was finished in maroon/brown vinyl. The cabin is kept cool with a fully functioning air conditioning system for those hot summer days. S am/fm radio for a more entertaining experience. This jeep just underwent an entire ground up, frame off, restoration about 2 years ago, and the exterior shows it through and through. Every part, piece, nut and bolt on the exterior of this jeep has been taken off, reconditioned or repainted, and reinstalled to factory specifications. It’s a pretty neat story really, the gentleman we acquired this jeep from actually built 75% of it in a 10x10 storage shed, just to get it running and rolling. After that, he brought it back to his garage, and began the full restoration. As with any flat fender jeep of it’s era, the steel has some natural waves and ripples to it throughout, adding to the original character and “patina” of the steel. As we mentioned earlier, the interior of this jeep blends right in with the exterior. The only thing we would point out are the newly upholstered and padded original seats and frames that really set the tone for this entire truck. A time when comfort and convenience took a back seat to rugged reliability and capability. All gauges are new or refurbished originals, as is the caution tag on the dash. This willys is the epitome of jeeping and jeep culture, and needs to be seen to be truly appreciated. Mechanically we had no choice but to fall in love with this truck. We hear it all the time; “i just had her running last summer” ... “but something came up, and now it won’t start”. With a phone call and a couple of bolts, we were able to put a better cranking starter in it and were cruising down lake shore dr like we owned the city. This little cruiser commands attention at every turn. The clutch is nice and tight, and the transmission shifts through all 3 gears very smoothly. Lock out the borg-warner dualmatic hubs, and watch this beast go to work! There’s really nothing we can note negatively about the mechanicals of this restored willys. Drive it, love it, buy it… it’s as simple as that at evolve motors!
